Favourite stay in NY

The Gershwin Hotel: a trendy, fashionable and artistic hotel offering affordable rates for the budget minded traveller, like me. The more you save, the more you can go shopping! :) And this lovely hotel includes full hotel services, a nice coffee bar where you can have breakfast or lunch and comfortable rooms, right off 5th Ave. With the bright and richly colored decor, the lobby full of (chanel!) pop art, the funky high-ceilinged bar and it's location in the Flatiron District, the price can't be beat!

DC cupcakes

When you’re visiting Washington DC, you HAVE to make a pitstop at Georgetown Cupcakes. Unfortunately the place got so popular that you have to stand in line for hours to get in… Why it’s popular? Because the cupcakes are really tasty. And… the owners have their own reality television show in the US, about how they transformed the cupcakery into a sweeping success.

But we don’t like standing in line for food, that just makes us hungry. So I’m gonna tell you a secret…

1. Go to georgetowncupcakes.com
2. Order online by 8pm the day prior the pickup
3. And go directly to the front counter and get your cupcakes

Winter/Summer 2011

I guess HEMA is confused these days... What happened to "spring"? There's supposed to be a transition period between winter and summer!

Goodbye!

After 3 years of working my ass off at the most luxurious magazine of The Netherlands... it was time to say goodbye! People will call me crazy, but I had to move on. I’m still young and finding out where to go and who to be, so I found myself a new challenge: PR! To be continued…

Photos: these were the cupcakes that I ordered at supercupcakes.nl for my goodbye party! It was my way to say: “Thank you GMG for the wonderful time and all the beautiful experiences, amazing chances and warm memories that I keep in my heart.”

Kate Moss' new addiction

This year seems to have started quite well for Kate Moss who has recently struck a deal with luxury brand Dior and will now be promoting the Dior Addict Lipstick. The luxury brand picks the best brand ambassadors for their products. After selecting Natalie Portman for the Miss Dior Chérie campaign, they chose Kate for the Dior Beauté Line.

The new ad campaign is only set to debut in fashion magazines in May, however in order to build anticipation and excitement for the new products some photos have already been released to keep things interesting. And also a fabulous short video - starring Kate Moss and music from Duran Duran - will be revealed soon! In the meantime... enjoy these two teasers:

Church meets Glamour

Eight beautiful women. Each working in de luxury industry. Together. In a church.
Why? Because I thought it was the perfect background for this photo shoot, where photographer Elmar Krop made portraits of these women. And it turned out stunning! But also very cold… Although you won’t see that in the pictures. Check out the result at the next issue of Miljonair magazine, the 10th of March.

Francicso van Benthum

Francisco van Benthum showed his White Label collection for the second time at Boutyq; a style platform where four designers came together to show their collection. Francisco was the star of the evening with his refined image of men, where they always look stylish and dandy. Slim suits, in satin and velour, combined with the preppy look and sporty influences, like short blazers and oversized t-shirts. Striking were the flood pants and the wet hair-do’s.

Skulls and Kisses at Boutyq

Lovely cupcakes by Mynth Events at Boutyq - February 1st at Loods 6, Amsterdam. Francisco van Benthum, Jeroen van Tuyl, Jan Boelo and Unconditional did a fashion show, separately from AIFW. What a blast! I'm craving for more! (cupcakes)

Fashion Week Part III

"..So come on, escape with me. To a world where magic can be.." In the MC theatre, Ilja Visser showed her ‘Escapism’ collection, that was inspired by Cirque de Burlesque. A world of illusion, fantasy and theatrical parody. Even in the foyer was a cirqisch atmosphere, where we got some cocktails, scroppino’s, cotton candy and popcorn. The models were showing Ilja’s AW 11/12 collection at trampolines, ladders, swings in a décor of lights that illustrated a circus tent. Personally I totally loved this show, because it was very playful, surprising and renewing. But I love Ilja anyway... Whatever.

I heart my work

I'm working on the catwalkreport for March, so I'm checking out the new Spring Summer collections of 2011... And that's just like eating an ice cream. Or swimming in a bright blue sea. Pure enjoyment. 100% pleasure.

Fashion Week Part II

Internationally known designer Tony Cohen showed his Fall/Winter collection of 2011 at Saturday the 29th of January at AIFW. Tony is a regular at New York Fashion Week, but came back to his hometown Amsterdam to show for the first time at AIFW. We saw lots of black, gold, copper, elegance and wearable cloths. Worn by a couple of famous models like Kim Noorda – who appeared earlier in shows for Chanel, Burberry, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana. Yes, we can, Dutchies!

Fashion Week part I

The fashion week bonanza is already busy rocking Amsterdam with shows, exhibitions, events en presentations. So I am all thrilled and excited. I won't be going to too many shows because there are just a few exciting talents. But, I will run in and out the Westergas area and check some pop-up stores, galleries and presentations here and there.

Yesterday I attended the opening at suikerdepôt/nuzyn, where fORS presented their second collection for A/W 2011. Inspired by the image of men, they came up with a multilayered collection for men and women that plays with the current ambiguous state of masculinity. The clothes presented in an installation mixing video, photography and the collection's garments. Huh? Yeah, just go there and see for yourself. It’s really cool!

The exhibition runs from the 25th until the 30th January. Location : Prinsengracht 463. http://www.the-fors.com/

Wannahave

These oldskool palladiums are definitely on my wish list for this winter. Since we have to survive snowstorms and blizzards, we need to be well prepared. Palladiums are the more tougher version of UGG boots. Probably less warm, but more steady on ice. And more elegant!

Fashion Photo Flash

I totally love this photography from Koray Birand. This shoot just came in, and I just can't stop looking at it...
